Famous poet Himayat Ali Shair passes away
Renowned Pakistani poet and lyricist Himayat Ali Shair passed away in Toronto, Canada at the age of 93 after an illness. He was born in Aurangabad, India on 14th of July, 1926. He began his career from All India Radio station. Later after the independence, he moved to Pakistan. His first book “Aag mein Phool” won a presidential award in 1958.
In 1960s, he started working as lyricist for Pakistani film sound tracks and his work was awarded with numerous awards. He also won two Nigar Awards for Best Song Lyricist in 1962 and 1963, for the films Aanchal and Daman respectively.
Films with his work include ‘Jab Se Dekha Hai Tumhe’, ‘Dil Ne Tujhe Maan Liya’, ‘Daaman’, ‘Ek Tera Sahara’, ‘Kaneez’, ‘Maire Mehboob’, ‘Tasveer’ and ‘Khilona’ just to name a few. He was also applauded and well-regarded for works like, ‘Aag May Phool’, ‘Shikast Aarzoo’ and ‘Mitti ka Qarz’.
