Theresa May to step down on 7th June

Prime Minister Theresa May said on Friday she would step down on June 7, succumbing to calls in her governing Conservative Party to make way for a new leader to try to break an impasse over Britain’s departure from the European Union.

May will surpass Gordon Brown’s tenure of 2 years and 319 days in Downing Street next week but will still go down as the fourth shortest serving post-war prime minister. May’s cabinet colleagues, led the tributes.

May finally ran out of road after her speech on Tuesday setting out new “bold” terms for her Withdrawal Agreement Bill was opposed by Conservative Brexiteers, the Democratic Unionist Party, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, as well as his party’s backbench second referendum campaigners.
