Six-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Timber Market
A six-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Timber Market, Media reported on Monday. However, no casualties were reported in the incident.
Area people said that the building was constructed 23 years ago and comprised of 21 apartments.
They said the building was in a dilapidated condition that resulted in its collapse. Soon after the incident, people residing in the neighbourhood started shifting to safer places.
They maintained that despite lodging several complaints to the Sindh Building Control (SBCA), the officials concerned did not take the matter seriously.
They said the SBCA had gotten the six-storey building vacated a few hours ago after it had titled. Rescue teams have reached the site and the area has been cordoned off. Several vehicles and adjoining buildings were also affected due to the impact of the building collapse.
The gas and electricity connections to the building have been suspended. Heavy machinery has been called at the site to clear the rubble.
