Asia Bibi flies to Canada
Asia Bibi, a Christian woman who spent eight years on death row in Pakistan for blasphemy was freed last year, has flown to Canada where she has reunited with her family and the justice has been dispensed.
Islamist groups such as Tehreek-e-Labaik (TLP) protested for 3 days after the verdict, blocking the parts of country until the government struck an agreement that included a promise of the appeal of the case.
Canada has offered her asylum, but her close friends told the guardian that the woman was being prevented from leaving by the authorities.
Malook said Bibi’s safe arrival in Canada was the result of hard work by activists, foreign diplomats and others “who stood by Bibi in hard times and worked for her freedom”.
